An eight-year-old girl was raped and killed allegedly by two youngsters in Jharkhand's East Singhbhum district on Friday, police said.
The little girl had gone to market along with her family members. Two youths allured the girl away by offering sweets and snacks and took her to a nearby jungle. They first raped and later strangulated her, police said.
The incident occurred at Mousabini area of the district, around 140 km from Ranchi.
Villagers caught two youths, suspected them to be the perpetrators, and brutally beat them up. They were later hospitalised.
On Wednesday, a 13-year-old was allegedly raped in her house when her family had gone to perform Chhath puja. She was later found strangulated to death.
According to official figures, 905 rape cases have been reported till August this year. The figure stood at 792 in the same period in 2014. Till August this year, 1,261 kidnapping cases were registered. From January to August 2014 the number stood at 996.
