Glasgow CWG Village bitten by vomitting bug

In what may be an alarming situation for the participants, the Commonwealth Games village at Dalmarnock here has been bitten by the 'norovirus bug' resulting in an outbreak of diarrhoea and vomiting among the workforce.

The athletes are due to start arriving at the athletes' village this week for the Commonwealth Games slated for July 23-Aug 3.

The organsing committee is concerned with the outbreak of diarrhoea and vomiting, just a week before the action begins, reports The Herald.

The organisers admitted that that there were a "small number" of cases among the workforce at the site in the Dalmarnock district and it is being investigated.

"We have been made aware of a small number of diarrhoea and vomiting cases being reported from workforce in the village, which we are investigating," a spokesperson was quoted as saying by the daily.

All the competitors have been sent an advisory message that states that there is a possibility the virus could be "highly contagious".

"Any village resident with any signs or symptoms of diarrhoea and vomiting should stay in their rooms and contact the polyclinic for assistance by telephone or through their team management," reads the message.

"Workforce should notify their manager and avoid coming into work. If symptoms appear while on shift, workforce should contact their supervisor. Please remind your teams about adopting good practice in the use of regular hand-washing and sanitiser," it added.
