Greece beat Romania 3-1 Friday night in a decisive 2014 FIFA World Cup qualifying play-off match held at Karaiskaki stadium in Athens.
Greek striker Kostas Mitroglou scored the first goal on the 14th minute. Romanian Bogdan Stancu scored the game's second goal on the 19th minute, reported Xinhua.
Greek striker Dimitris Salpingidis was the scorer of the third goal on the 20th minute and Mitroglou followed with the final one on the 66th minute, handing the victory to the hosts.
Friday's result brings Greece closer to winning the ticket to Brazil. Greece and Romania will face each other again Nov 19 at Bucharest.
The two teams had to settle for the play-off to determine the qualifiers, after ranking second in their qualifying groups behind Bosnia-Herzegovina and Netherlands respectively in the first phase.
