Ex-servicemen, officials and residents paid floral tributes at the War Memorial in John Hall in Civil Lines. Deputy Commissioner T.L. Satyaprakash led the homage.
K.K. Yadav, secretary of the Zila Sainik Board, said 34 soldiers from Gurgaon district of Haryana were killed in the 1971 war that led to the birth of Bangladesh as an independent nation.
A similar function was held at Rezang-La War Memorial Chowk here in Palam Vihar.
On this day in 1971, the chief of the Pakistani military in then East Pakistan, General A.A.K. Niazi, and some 93,000 troops, surrendered to the Indian Army.
