HC seeks CBI report on AIIMS MBBS entrance test

The Delhi High Court on Wednesday asked the CBI to file a report within a week on a plea seeking direction for the AIIMS to quash the result of this year's MBBS entrance examination over alleged illegalities and irregularities.

A division bench of Acting Chief Justice Gita Mittal and Justice C. Hari Shankar sought response from the central government, All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) and the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on a plea seeking a court-monitored investigation into the alleged irregularities in the test.

The MBBS entrance examination of AIIMS was held on May 28 and the result declared on June 15.

Dr Anand Rai, who claims to be a whistleblower in the Vyapam scam case, approached the high court through advocate Prashant Bhushan, alleging that the question papers of this year's entrance examination were leaked.

The plea also sought direction to present in court the findings of the AIIMS committee which was constituted to enquire into the complaints regarding the conduct of the examination.

Seeking direction for the AIIMS to conduct fresh entrance examination for admission to the MBBS course for this academic session "if the exam is found to be entirely and irreversibly vitiated after investigations", the plea alleged that seats of the institution were sold.

Unfair and unlawful practices were alleged to have taken place during the online Computer-based Test (CBT) at the behest of some people, who were able to gain illegal access to examination centres and take screen shots/ photographs of the questions from the computer screen, said the plea.

The plea said that the petitioner had received the snapshots of question papers from a source who claimed these were leaked from a college in Lucknow when the online test was on.

It added that the questions obtained through such unlawful means were subsequently solved by solvers present outside the examination centres and the answer key was circulated throughout India to the beneficiary candidates during the examination.

The court posted the matter for next hearing on August 16.
