Light to moderate rain with lightning is likely in the eastern metropolis while heavy to very heavy rainfall could affect coastal West Bengal in the next 24 hours owing to a depression over the Bay of Bengal, Met officials said here on Friday.
"In the last 24 hours, we have recorded 10.8 mm rainfall in Kolkata. Thundershowers are likely in some parts of the city in the next 24 hours," a Met official said.
The depression lay centred at west-central Bay of Bengal, some 280 km east of Visakhapatnam. The system is very likely to intensify into a deep depression during the next 24 hours and move northeastwards and cross Bangladesh coast on the evening of November 6, an IMD bulletin said.
