Following their Pool C victories against Pakistan and Malaysia, the Indian women's tennis team recorded another win, this time over Turkmenistan in the Fed Cup Group II Asia/Oceania promotional playoff here on Friday.
The Sania Mirza-led team beat Turkmenistan 2-0 on the indoor hard courts of the SAAP Tennis Complex and will take on either Indonesia or the Phillipines, who taking on each other in the other promotional playoff, on Saturday.
The winner of the contest will be promoted to Asia/Oceania Zone Group I in 2016. With the win, India extended their head-to-head against Turkmenistan to 2-0.
In the first round contest, India's Prarthana Thombare defeated Jahana Bayramova 6-0, 6-2 in 51 minutes while Ankita Raina made it 2-0 for the home team with her 6-1, 6-2 52-minute victory over Anastasiya Prenko in the second singles.
With the two singles matches in the kitty, there was no need for the third and final match, the doubles encounter where India's Natasha Palha and Ankita were to take on Jahana and Guljan Muhammetkuliyeva.
The Indian team consists of Ankita, Prarthana, Natasha and captain Sania.
