Abed Alaziz Dawods equaliser secured the United Arab Emirates (UAE) a 1-1 draw with Iran in a Group A match of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) U-16 Championship here on Sunday.
After a goalless first half at Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Iran broke the deadlock early in the second half through substitute Alireza Asadabadi only for Dawod to hit back almost immediately for the UAE.
While Asadabadi scored in the 48th minute, Dawod restored parity two minutes later.
Mohammad Sharifi struck the UAE crossbar midway through the half but a second was not forthcoming as both sides moved to four points at the top of the Group A standings.
