Islamic State (IS)-affiliated militants on Tuesday took over a power plant in the northern coastal city of Sirte in Libya, according to the group and a military source.
"The caliphate soldiers stormed the power plant, where the infidels of Libya Dawn were stationed. They took over the plant with the will and power of Allah," the group said in a statement in social media.
The IS affiliated militants added they completely seized the whole of Sirte city, Xinhua news agency reported.
A military source from Libya Dawn confirmed the loss of the power plant, adding that four people were killed and 10 others wounded in the attack by IS.
Libya has been witness to increasing violence ever since the fall of the country's then leader Muammar Gaddafi in 2011.
The North African country is plagued with continuous fighting and clashes between rival armed factions.
Some extremist groups like the IS and Ansar al-Sharia have been taking advantage of the situation to increase their influence.
