Israeli forces arrested 19 Palestinians on the charges of terrorism and other criminal offences in raids across West Bank, an army spokesperson said Monday.

Five of the 19 accused were Hamas activists who were arrested early Sunday from villages near the cities of Nablus and Ramallah, the spokesperson said, according to a Xinhua report.

Another three were arrested from Hebron and Tulkarm, while the others from refugee camps and villages in the vicinity of Ramallah, Bethlehem and Jenin, the spokesperson added.

She said that the five Hamas activists were arrested because of suspected involvement in so-called "popular terror," characterised by hurling of stones and petrol bombs at vehicles and other acts of violence.

She added that the rest were suspected of "illegal activities" against civilians and Israeli forces, and all the suspects were in custody for questioning.
