A group of 16 girl students from Jammu and Kashmir met the Indian Army chief, General Bipin Rawat, here on Tuesday, an official statement said.

The group, hailing from the remote Gingle town in Uri in Srinagar district, are on a tour to Bengaluru and Delhi from May 2-11 as part of the Indian Army's ongoing outreach programme "to foster a spirit of national integration".

General Rawat motivated the youngsters to work hard and contribute actively to nation-building.

The national integration tours are educational and motivational for schoolchildren, youths and the local populace of Jammu and Kashmir and the northeastern states. They aim to provide an insight into the country's rich heritage, various developmental and industry initiatives and provide them an opportunity to interact with renowned personalities.

The students have so far visited various cultural and historical places in Bengaluru and Delhi.
