The BJP swept the Jharkhand Lok Sabha poll by winning 10 seats and is leading on two others while riding on a popularity wave of its prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi.

The 10 seats where the party won are Ranchi, Godda, Giridih, Singhbhum, Lohardagga, Jamshedpur, Khuti, Dhanbad, Palamau and Hazaribagh.

The Congress suffered a humiliating defeat in Ranchi, with former central minister Subodh Kant Sahay losing to BJP's Ram Tahal by over 1.99 lakh votes.

In Jamshedpur, BJP's Vidyut Baran Mahto defeated sitting MP and Jharkhand Vikas Morcha-Prajatantrik (JVM-P) candidate Ajay Kumar by over 99,874 votes.

Lakshman Gilua of the BJP trounced Geeta Koda, wife of former chief minister Madhu Koda, in Singhbhum by over 87,000 votes.

Lok Sabha deputy speaker and BJP candidate Karia Munda won in Khunti by over one lakh votes, getting the better of Enos Ekka of Jharkhand Party.

Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) won one seat and is leading on another.

JMM candidate Vijay Hansda defeated Hemlal Murmu of the BJP in Rajmahal. JMM chief Shibu Soren is leading in Dumka against BJP's Sunil Soren by 13,000 votes. Former chief minister and JVM-P president Babulal Marandi is in third position.

JVM-P Ranchi candidate Amitabh Chaduhary and Jharkhand State Cricket Association president lost.

The Trinamool Congress which fielded candidates on nine seats failed to open its account.

A key regional party, All Jharkhand Students' Union, also performed poorly.
