Joint action plan to solve water-logging issue on Gurgaon expressway

Three departments of the Haryana government and National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) Saturday prepared a joint action plan to counter the water logging issue on Hero Honda crossing of the Delhi-Gurgaon expressway, an official said.

A joint action plan was prepared by NHAI, Haryana Urban Development Authority (HUDA), the Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon (MCG) and Haryana State Industrial & Infrastructure Development Corporation (HSIIDC) officers in presence of Deputy Commissioner Shekhar Vidyarthi and they even fixed deadline for themselves to complete the action plan.

As a long term and permanent solution to the water-logging problem, it was decided that a big drain will be constructed underneath the left side service lane (while going from Gurgaon to Jaipur) of the express way which would empty into the Badshahpur drain.

"The HUDA has been entrusted the task of cleansing this drain and enhancing its capacity so that it can carry more water. For this, the HSIIDC would give a 30 meter wide strip of land to HUDA through the erstwhile SEZ land, for which they have already moved a request," a spokesperson said.

Presently the capacity of Badshahpur drain is 1,750 cusecs.

The NHAI was requested to explore the proposal and issue approval expeditiously on use of right of way (ROW) and construction of drain underneath the service lane.

As a short term measure, it was decided that the MCG will lay pipes connecting other side of service lane to the drain constructed along the expressway, whereever needed so that the waste water do not flow on the service lane and falls into the drain.

This will be done in next three days.

The second decision was that the HSIIDC, MCG and HUDA will clean and desilt the drains in their jurisdictions on both sides of expressway in next three days.

The HSIIDC would also ensure that the waste water and storm water lines from industries are either properly connected or alternate arrangements are made, so that the industrial waste do not spill over the service lane.
