There will now be three groups, instead of four, at this month's Badminton World Federation's (BWF) Sudirman Cup to be held here from May 19 to 26.
Following last week's withdrawal of Group 4 team South Africa, the remaining two teams in that group have been redrawn in Group 3.
The Philippines will now compete in Group 3A versus Ukraine, New Zealand, Turkey and Sri Lanka while Kazakhstan will play in Group 3B against Switzerland, Vietnam, Australia and Lithuania. The brief redraw took place this morning at the BWF headquarters here.
Tournament officials determined it more beneficial for Kazakhstan and the Philippines to be placed in Group 3 - and therefore have the opportunity to play more matches in the prestigious mixed team event - than for them to remain in Group 4 and only have one tie versus each other.
