A court in Manipur on Wednesday sentenced a man to 10 years rigorous imprisonment and fined him Rs 50,000 for raping his daughter-in-law.
The prosecution said Mongjam Phunindra of Mayang in Imphal West district committed the crime in March 2012. Judge M. Manoj Kumar passed the sentence.
Ngangom Tejkumar, the prosecution director, told IANS that this was a reprehensible crime against women.
In the past, many persons accused of rape and other heinous crimes were usually beaten up by women activists in the court complex. However, there was restraint during Wednesday's sentencing.
