A Maoist guerrilla allegedly involved in the killing of an Indian Police Service (IPS) official last year was arrested in Jharkhand's Pakur district Friday, police said.

According to Jharkhand Police spokesperson, Daud Hembrom alias Vimal Hembrom alias Govinda was arrested on a tip-off from Bargo hill in Pakur district which is around 450 km from Ranchi.

Police seized one pistol, one self loading rifle looted from police, cartridges and mobile phones from the arrested Maoist.

Hembrom was allegedly involved in the killing of Pakur superintendent of police (SP) Amarjit Balihar in July last year.

Balihar was killed in a Maoist ambush when he was returning to Pakur from Dumka after attending an official meeting.

Five other policemen were also killed apart from him.

Maoist guerrillas are active in 18 of the 24 district of the state.
