Prime Minister Narendra Modi will launch the "Beti Bachao Programme" in Haryana's Panipat city on Jan 22, Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar said Friday.
Modi has chosen Haryana for the launch of the campaign to save daughters as Haryana has the worst sex ratio - just 879 females per 1,000 males - among all states in the country.
Modi has, in the past, pointed out that out of the 15 worst districts in the country in terms of sex ratio, nine are in Haryana.
"Under this programme, a massive campaign would be run for the welfare and safety of girl child," Khattar said in Bhiwani, 300 km from here.
"The declining sex ratio in Haryana and the country is a cause of concern and the programme would seek to correct the imbalance," he added.
