At least three people were killed and 43 fishermen remained missing due to tropical storm Mujigae (local name: Kabayan), a Philippine civil defence official reported on Monday.
The number of missing fishermen in the region was placed at 43 as of 5 p.m. (local time) on Monday, Xinhua quoted Melchito Castro, director of the office of civil defence (Ilocos region) said.
The fishermen went on fishing despite warning disseminated before Mujigae made the landfall.
Officials said fishermen encountered turbulent sea and strong winds while on their way back from fishing.
According to civil defence report, there were 40,841 families or 193,825 persons affected in central Luzon, of which 124 families or 620 persons are staying in four evacuation centres.
