At least six firemen were injured battling a blaze which broke out on the 13th floor of a 28-storeyed tower in south Mumbai here Friday evening, officials said.
The six injured firemen have been admitted to the Breach Candy Hospital.
The blaze engulfed the middle-level floors of Mont Blanc building at Kemps Corner around 7.30 p.m., Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation Disaster Control Cell said.
At least 17 residents trapped inside the building were rescued till late Friday night.
More than two dozen fire tenders from various fire stations were deployed to bring the blaze under control.
The exact cause of the conflagration is now known.
Eyewitnesses said the fire caused blasts in domestic gas cylinders and spread to higher floors, trapping many people.
Fire officials said the priority was to minimise casualties and bring the blaze under control though there has been huge damage to property.
