Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh Saturday stressed upon the need of improving conditions of the primary health centres (PHCs) as he asserted the NDA government was committed to improving India's medical infrastructure.
Speaking at the convocation ceremony of the King George Medical University (KGMU) here, Singh said that it was the eneadvour of the Narendra Modi government to ensure that facilities at the PHCs and the Community Health Centres (CHCs) were enhanced.
"Our government is also working towards providing health care and health cover to the people," said Rajnath Singh, who represents Lucknow in parliament and is a former Uttar Pradesh chief minister.
Stressing on the need for an integrated healthcare system "instead of the existing fragmented healthcare system", he noted that by doing so, the pressure on the super-speciality institutes like the All India Institute of Medical Sciences and the Sanjay Gandhi Post-Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences would be reduced.
Referring to the Swach Bharat Abhiyan started by Modi, he said this was the first time that the prime minister and president of the country had taken brooms in their hands for a cause that would pay rich dividends in times to come.
Calling KGMU an institute which had made remarkable contribution to healthcare, he wished doctors who got degrees at the convocation, well in their careers.
