Nepal quake makes twitteratti abuzz with 'latest' news

As a 7.3-magnitude earthquake jolted Nepal on Tuesday, the twitteratti world was abuzz with messages expressing concern and sharing information about safety and security amid reports of rock falls and landslides.

Around 2.00 p.m., Northmen PK @NorthmenPK tweeted: "All teams of climbers i came in contact with are safe and sound. The voices of rock falls and landslides were heard in many villages."

Just 10 minutes earlier, Northmen PK had tweeted: "according to Lakpa, people around his house are safe, houses are down, luckily people were not in their homes."

At about 4.00 p.m., Chhabi R. Pokhrel @crpokhrel, from Nepal, said: "Lukla hospital severely damaged - no casualties reported yet."

A Swiss climber williee was quoted as saying: "I saw this building collapsed, at least one injury, don't know how many were inside."

On Tuesday, the powerful temblor struck at 12.40 p.m. (Nepal time).

The quake's epicentre was recorded 68 km from Namche Bazar, the starting point for Mount Everest climbers northeast of Kathmandu. Namche Bazaar is 30 km from Everest, the world's highest peak at 8,848 metres.
