The body of a newborn kid was recovered from a garbage vat here on Friday morning, police said.
"Body of a newborn boy was found dumped in a garbage vat beside the Dhakuria bus stand (in south Kolkata) at around 6 a.m. The corpse has been sent for an autopsy," said an officer from Lake police station.
According to locals, the body was first noticed by the local shopkeepers and pedestrians who informed police.
"We haven't received reports of any newborn baby going missing from this locality in the last few days. It seems the body was dumped in the garbage vat last night," the officer added.
