No headway in Sankalp, wife suicide case

Four days after noted lyricist Santosh Anand's son Sankalp and daughter-in-law Nandini committed suicide, the investigators have failed to make any headway.

A case was registered in the Kosi police station Saturday against 38 people, including a director general of police, following intervention of the state government.

However, following no fresh move by the investigating agency, locals are wondering why senior officials are dragging their feet and hesitating in booking those named in the FIR.

The FIR unnerved senior officials and some politicians who are directly or indirectly linked to the case.

Santosh Anand, father of the deceased, wrote to union Home Minister Rajnath Singh requesting a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe, as he does not trust the UP Police.

He even suspected mafia links of some people named in the FIR while expressing concern over threats to his own life.

In the suicide note, Sankalp has not only named people but even given their mobile numbers.

Earlier, the Mathura police succeeded in convincing Santosh to lodge a written complaint to enable the Kosi police station to register an FIR.

Mathura police officials have already apprised the DGP and the chief minister's office of the difficulties in pursuing the case and initiating action against the top guns.

The Aam Aadmi Party too has asked for a high-level investigation.

An eyewitness Giriraj, a railway employee told the police that he saw the couple jumping before the Intercity Express. Their nine-year-old daughter somehow escaped.

Sankalp, 38, was a lecturer with the Lok Nayak Jayaprakash Narayan National Institute Of Criminology and Forensic Science, New Delhi.
