The National Students Union of India (NSUI) on Tuesday lodged a complaint against ABVP members for brandishing firearms inside the DUSU President's office saying that the incident has brought infamy to Delhi University.
"On October 1, some armed goons forcibly entered the DUSU (Delhi University Students Union) office. Some students have complained about the matter. This all happened in DUSU President Amit Tanwar's office," read the complaint letter written to Dean, Students Welfare (DSW), by Vikas Chhikara, Delhi State President of NSUI.
"It has brought the university and student union's reputation at the lowest level," read the letter further.
During a memorial function organised by the ABVP for Pradeep Tanwar, the brother of current DUSU President Amit Tanwar, at the latter's office, a few men were photographed posing with firearms. A man was pictured alongside the DUSU President with a pistol in his hand while three more rifles were placed on a table before the group.
The pictures were posted on Tanwar's profile on social media site Facebook, but were removed later after they were subjected to brickbats.
"We are strictly against such behaviour. DSW office has said that it will look into the matter as soon as possible," Angellica Aribam, NSUI National General Secretary, told IANS.
NSUI also staged a protest on Tuesday denouncing "the unbecoming act on part of the ruling party" in the university campus.
