NSUI to approach HC over 'rigged' DUSU polls

The Congress-affiliated National Students Union of India (NSUI) on Wednesday said it will approach the Delhi High Court to "expose the corruption behind the electoral process of Delhi University".

The NSUI has been alleging that the elections to the Delhi University Students Union (DUSU), where it won only one (Joint Secretary) of the four seats at stake, were not conducted fairly and that the rules were bent to "make certain individuals victorious".

On Wednesday, as per the instructions of the Grievance Redressal Committee, the defeated NSUI candidates were provided with machine-wise data and the video recording of the counting held on September 10.

But the NSUI said it was not satisfied and pointed out several discrepancies in the counting process.

"The candidates were also shown the video recording but the camera was focused only on one or two machines and didn't show all the 12 tables wherein 140 machines were being counted. We are dissatisfied as no transparency could be established by looking at just one or two cameras," the NSUI said in a statement.

"There were also discrepancies found in the machine wise data provided by the university as some papers showed the date of counting as September 9 instead of September 10 which was the actual day of counting," it added.

The NSUI pointed out that the date was missing from some papers and some papers were signed by just one official instead of the requisite number of two officials.

It alleged that the "election results have been manipulated with a clear agenda to make certain individuals victorious" and said it would approach the Delhi High Court "in the hope of finding justice... and to expose the corruption behind the electoral process of Delhi University".
