Odessa massacre photo exhibit opens in Berlin

Moscow, Aug 12 (IANS/ITAR -TASS) A photo exhibition titled "Odessa Massacre", devoted to the May 2 tragedy in the Ukrainian city, opened in the German capital Tuesday.

The exhibition is being held at the Junge Welt newspaper's editorial office.

The exposition shows the murderous outcome of the standoff between the supporters of the Euro Maidan and opponents of Ukraine's European integration, which was a manifestation of the country's deep political crisis.

The clashes involved militants of the Ukrainian nationalist organisation Right Sector, football fans and representatives of the "Maidan self-defence" from Kiev who attacked supporters of Ukraine's federalisation.

The radicals set on fire a tent camp in Kulikovo field and the regional House of the Unions.

According to official data, 48 people were killed and more than 200 were injured in the riots.

The exhibit includes more than 50 colour and black and white photographs, taken not only by professional photo journalists but also by eyewitnesses to the events.

The exhibition has already been on display in Serbia, Slovenia, Bulgaria, Poland, Italy, France, Belgium and Spain.

From Germany it will travel to the UK and then to Ireland.
