The Indian army on Saturday said it had repatriated a resident of Pakistani Kashmir who had inadvertently crossed the Line of Control (LoC) into indian territory.
"Keeping up with its high standards, ethos and traditions, the Indian Army repatriated a resident of Amra Sawan, Chenari, Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir who had inadvertently crossed over into the Indian territory on the intervening night of June 10/11, 2015," said a statement issued by headquarters of the army's Udhampur-based northern command.
It said that the individual, identified as Kashif Baig, was handed over by the unit based at Uri frontier area to the Pakistan Army "with a new set of clothes and sweets for the family".
Baig had inadvertently crossed over into Indian territory and was apprehended by troops in the Uri sector, it said.
The statement said that the army sent an urgent hot line message to the Pakistan side to inform them of the safety and well-being of Baig, along with a request for a flag meeting so that he could be repatriated and united with his family at the earliest.
"The flag meeting was held at the Chakothi Uri Crossing Point located close to the Kaman Aman Setu, near Uri, today (Saturday) at 11.30 a.m. and the individual was handed over to representatives from Pakistan," it said.
