Former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister O. Paneerselvam, who heads a faction of the AIADMK, on Friday met Prime Minister Narendra Modi and discussed the political situation in the state.
Informed sources said the two leaders are understood to have discussed the fallout of the split in the AIADMK after the death of then Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa and if the two factions could unite again.
Modi is understood to have felt that there should be unity among the two factions.
Paneerselvam urged Modi to notify the constitution of the Cauveri River Water Authority, financial relief for farmers who had commited suicide, financial assistance for drought relief work and urgent aid for water schemes as the state was reeling under severe drought.
