The parliament's monsoon session will be prorogued, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley said on Wednesday.
Jaitley said that a parliamentary committee had decided to recommend to the president that the monsoon session be prorogued.
He said that the monsoon session had been stormy due to the Congress, Jaitley said, adding that the GST bill had been delayed because of the Congress.
"We were in talks with the Congress party and they have indicated that their attitude will continue," said Jaitley.
This was a reference to the efforts that had been made to build consensus on the GST and briefly reconvene the monsoon session to pass the measure. The bill is now likely to be brought in the Rajya Sabha during the November-December winter session of parliament. While the Lok Sabha has already passed the bill, it will have to again do so as a parliamentary committee has suggested amendments to the bill.
"Congress party's anger seems to be against both the government and the people of India who reduced them to 44 seats. Our priority is growth and and we'll keep trying that," Jaitley added.
The monsoon session of parliament was adjourned sine dine on August 13.
