Patients bear brunt of pharmacists' strike in Ghaziabad

Patients have been bearing the brunt of the strike called by pharmacists and technicians in government hospitals here for the implementation of the 7th Pay Commission in Uttar Pradesh.

The services in government hospitals were hit for the fifth day on Tuesday due to the strike, which began on September 16, and the lack of alternative arrangements.

A 20-year-old girl died allegedly due to lack of proper medical aid at the government-run MMG Hospital on Tuesday.

The angry family members alleged laxity on the part of the hospital and staged a sit-in.

"My daughter Pinky was suffering from severe fever. When I reached hospital, the necessary diagnostic services could not be provided by the hospital. My daughter succumbed to the illness in the hospital," said Virendra Singh, a resident of Sundarpuri in Ghaziabad.

Denying the allegation, Dr. Sunil Tyagi, Chief Medical Superintendent of the hospital, said the girl was brought dead to the hospital and the hospital was carrying out necessary services with no hassle.

"The government is responsible for the situation. We gave prior notice to the government when we were not given justice. An 11-point memorandum was already given to the state authorities but they did not pay any attention to the demands," said Alok Tyagi, President of the Pharmacists' Association.
