Pregnant woman, relative drown in Meghalaya

A pregnant woman and her cousin drowned in a pond in Meghalaya's East Khasi Hills on Monday.

A police spokesperson said Iardahun Suting, 22, a pregnant woman from Umiew Pomlakrai village, went to fetch water from a pond inside her residential premises but slipped into the pond and drowned.

Lastonwell Kharkongor, the woman's husband, tried to save her but was pulled out of the pond.

The woman's cousin, Kilanson Marbaniang, 23, also tried to help but he too drowned, police said.
