The hague, May 7 IANS) International Monetary Fund's managing director Christine Lagarde's meeting with Dutch students was interrupted on Tuesday by chanting protestors who were discontent with the IMF's policies to resolve the eurozone debt crisis.
Lagarde was speaking to students at the University of Amsterdam about the crisis when organized students began interrupting pre-approved questions, reported Xinhua.
At least six activists were removed by security guards while the meeting continued.
Commenting on the damages brought by drastic cuts in Greece, Lagarde said: "Everybody has underestimated those effects... But that does not mean that the wrong measures were taken."
"I am still convinced that they are necessary. The taxes system in Greece should be improved, the cost of labour and pensions in Greece rose much faster than in other countries. All these factors need to be addressed," she said.
The IMF head stressed the importance to form a European banking union to improve the economy of the 17 eurozone countries and suggested that banks should start lending money again.
"They should not sit on their money," she said.
