The National Commission for Women Friday said that educational institutes where any kind of sexual assault on children was reported should be made to pay "punitive damages".

"Any educational institute should be made to pay punitive damages or something like this in case such incidents are reported from their premises," NCW chairperson Lalitha Kumaramangalam said during an interaction at the Indian Women's Press Corps here.

She was responding to questions on cases of sexual assault on children reported from some schools in Bengaluru.

"They (schools) should be made responsible," she said adding that the "educational lobby is very strong".

A nursery student and a six-year-old girl were allegedly sexually assaulted in different schools of Bengaluru last month.

Kumaramangalam also said children, both boys and girls, should be taught the concept of "bad touch and good touch" from an early age.
