'Put the guilty behind bars'

The naming of four individuals in the report of the Mudgal Committee which probed allegations of spot fixing and betting in the 2013 edition of the lucrative IPL drew scathing comments Friday from the cricketing fraternity and demands for the guilty to be "put behind bars".

Former IPL commissioner Lalit Modi said that all names made public by the court after the committee submitted its report should be jailed.

"All named in report should be #locked up for doing what they did. Examples have to be made. Check the amount of public #money spent on this," Modi tweeted.

"Finally the #money power and mafia power are no match to honorable Supreme Court. Truth prevails."

Cricket Association of Bihar secretary Aditya Verma, petitioner in the spot fixing and betting case, said sidelined president N. Srinivasan has ruined BCCI's reputation following the inclusion of his name into investigations on the allegations by the Mudgal Committee.

"The court has made it clear that the named parties will have to be there on Nov 24. There were three cricketers named today, six more will be revealed. It is a shame for the BCCI that its name has been dragged into all these things," Verma told reporters here.

"How will you make them understand? The apex court of India has understood what is going wrong, but Srinivasan is not taking it as a moral responsibility. These are big names, some Indian, and when we will get the reports and what court says on Nov 24, we will have to see."

A Supreme Court bench comprising justice T.S. Thakur and justice F.M. Kalifullah Friday disclosed the names of four dominant cricket personalities - N. Srinivasan, BCCI chief operating officer (COO) Sunder Raman, IPL franchise Rajasthan Royals (RR) co-owner Raj Kundra and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) team principal Gurunath Meiyappan besides at least three yet unnamed players - whose role are being probed in the spot fixing scandal.

Also welcoming the court's decision was former Indian skipper Bishan Singh Bedi.

"Does the BCCI need 2 B shown in more murky "mahaul"?!SCI nearly bares it all bar the shouting and there'll b plenty of that in Nov itself!!," Bedi wrote on the social networking site.

In the wake of Friday's developments, the BCCI elections - scheduled for Nov 20 - was put on hold for another four weeks.

BCCI Vice President Rajiv Shukla said that these developments do not jeopardise India's forcoming tour of Australia and they are not in any hurry to hold elections.

"The Indian team's tour of Australia is on. BCCI elections can be held later," he said.
