Rajiv Gandhi memorial's upkeep handed over to CPWD

The union cabinet Thursday approved entrusting arrangements for upkeep, maintenance and management of the Rajiv Gandhi Memorial at in Tamil Nadu's Sriperumbudur to the Central Public Works Department (CPWD).

This would include organizing functions on the birth and death anniversaries at the memorial and day to day operations and for providing appropriate budget to the CPWD for this purpose, an official release said here.

The Rajiv Gandhi Memorial is built at the site where former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi was assassinated.

It attracts a large number of visitors every day.
