Rajya Sabha adjourned for day

New Delhi, April 25 (IANS) The Rajya Sabha was repeatedly disrupted Thursday as the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) continued to press for Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's resignation and the Left parties raised the issue of the chit fund scam in West Bengal.

The house was first adjourned till 12 noon, then till 2 p.m. and was finally adjourned for the day.

The ruckus started as soon as Question Hour began with the BJP noisily demanding Manmohan Singh's resignation over former telecom minister A. Raja's claim that the prime minister was in the know of all the decisions that he took on 2G spectrum allocation.

The Left parties, meanwhile, raised the issue of West Bengal-based Saradha Group, which is accused of duping depositors.

Both continued with their sloganeering after the house met at noon after the first break. As the din continued, chairman Hamid Ansari again adjourned the upper house till 2 p.m.

When the house met again, some MPs gathered near the presiding officer's podium and raised slogans against the prime minister, forcing Deputy Chairman P.J. Kurien to adjourn the house for the day.

Similar scenes had played out in the upper house Tuesday as well. The house was first adjourned till noon, then till 2 p.m., and finally for the day.

The report prepared by the joint parliamentary committee (JPC) looking into 2G spectrum allocation had laid the blame for the losses to the public exchequer on account of faulty allocation of spectrum and grant of licences on former telecom minister A. Raja, clearing Manmohan Singh and Finance Minister P. Chidambaram of any wrongdoing.

However, the committee is divided over the content of the report.
