Rajya Sabha condoles member's death, adjourns

The Rajya Sabha on Thursday condoled the death of sitting member Praveen Rashtrapal and was adjourned for the day.

Rashtrapal was a Congress MP from Gujarat who died on Thursday morning following a cardiac arrest. He was elected to the Lok Sabha for the first time in 1999.

He was nominated in 2006 to the Rajya Sabha by the Congress and was again sent to the upper house in 2012.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted that he was pained by Rashtrapal's death. "My thoughts are with his family in this hour of grief."
