In a befitting finale to the Sobha ITF Mysuru Open tournament, Davis Cupper Ramkumar Ramnathan pushed himself to justify his top billing as he defeated Vishnu Vardhan 7-6(2), 3-6, 6-3 to claim the title here on Saturday.
In a match of fluctuating fortunes, there was little to separate the two. The first set, after they traded a break apiece went into tie-breaker where top seed and world No.226 Ramkumar took a 5-0 lead before wrapping up the set.
However, Vardhan recovered well as he broke Ramkumar in the second and sixth games to take the second set only to fade away in the decider.
Ramkumar opened a 3-0 lead with an early break of serve and went on to clinch the issue for a top prize of $1,440 and 27 ATP points while Vardhan pocketed $848 and 15 points.
