A shooting incident on Saturday injured six foreign nationals in the central Italian city of Macerata and led to the arrest of one man, the police said.
The suspect allegedly fired multiple rounds from a vehicle as he drove around the city's streets during the attack, which began around midday, the local media reported.
"Gunshots fired in Macerata. There are wounded. Police operation in progress. Stay protected by avoiding outdoor locations," police tweeted.
Police officials said those who had been injured were of "foreign nationality" and that they had been taken to the hospital where one had to undergo surgery, Efe news reported.
The suspected shooter, an Italian man, was swiftly arrested, the police said.
Authorities asked members of the public to remain vigilant and to stay indoors while an investigation was ongoing.
