A day after the city was brought to a virtual halt for hours by incessant rain and consequent flooding, Sunday remained sunny and sultry with the maximum temperature at 33.8 degrees, average for the season. The Met Office has forecast rain on Monday.

"The sky will remain partly cloudy tomorrow (Monday) and rains are expected in some parts of the city," said an official of the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

Monday's maximum and minimum temperatures are expected to hover around 32 and 25 degrees Celsius.

Sunday morning was pleasant and the minimum temperature settled four notches below average at 23 degrees Celsius. The maximum humidity was recorded at 97 percent.

The downpour Saturday brought the maximum temperature down to 31.3 degrees Celsius, three notches below average. The minimum temperature recorded was 23 degrees Celsius, four notches below average for the season.

From Saturday 8.30 a.m. till 8.30 a.m. Sunday, the city recorded 123.4 mm rainfall, which was one of the heaviest spells of rain in the last 10 years in the capital.

Massive traffic jams were reported from across the city as several roads got submerged under rainwater Saturday, stranding vehicles. The worst affected were areas in and around central Delhi.

Two Metro stations were also shut due to flooding, as was the arrival hall of the Terminal 3 of the Delhi airport for a while.

A total of 384.5 mm of rain has been recorded in Delhi since the outbreak of the monsoon in June, which is 98 percent above the normal.
