What happens when a group of fickle-minded people are adamant on staging a drama? And how the politics of love and insecurities unfold in today's world with a theatre festival focussing on these themes, the organisers said Saturday.

The second edition of "Samagam" festival began in Delhi Friday bringing two of its plays - "Khwahishen" and "Jee Hamein To Natak Karna Hai". It will end Sep 21.

The play "Khwahishen" will focus on how a tiff between the old and the new creates tensions in society.

The story revolves around three people caught in the web of changing time, stuck in their beliefs and unable to understand each other.

"This play brings forth the politics of love and insecurities by questioning differences and dominance accorded on the basis of gender," a statement said.

On the other hand, "Jee Humein..." is a comic-drama that narrates a story of a bunch of incompatible yet together, strong-headed but fickle-minded people who are adamant on staging a drama by an amateur theatre group to which they belong.

But their diverse backgrounds, ideologies and age groups contribute little to the drama as their director finds it difficult to bring them together on one platform. Hence they look for subjects and social issues to find a story to be told, but all their efforts go in vain as they struggle to arrive at any conclusion.

"But in the course of their journey all the actors are left a little wiser with regard to their responsibility towards their society and themselves, but they do pose pertinent questions to the audiences. What is their role in society? Are they not actors in their own way? If not, then why not?" it said.

The play will be staged at the India Habitat Centre at 7 p.m Saturday and Sunday.
