A bogie of the Poorvattar Sampark Kranti Express derailed on Tuesday in Assam, disrupting train services between Lumding and Silchar. There were no casualties, an official said.
The incident took place at about 2 a.m. between Mahur and Phiding stations, about 85 km from Lumding, a Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) official said.
"All passengers on board are safe. There is absolutely no injury to any passenger and the train is being taken back to New Haflong station," NFR Chief Public Relation Officer Pranav Jyoti Sharma said.
Railway officials immediately started restoration work at the site, he said.
The weather continues to remain inclement in the affected areas and roads to the Barak Valley are obstructed.
Landslides had disrupted train services in the Lumding-Silchar hill section earlier last week. It was only on Monday that the movement of trains had resumed.
