The national capital on Tuesday saw the warmest day of the year so far with maximum temperature recorded at 36.2 degree Celsius, seven notches above the season's average. Chances of a major respite are not much, say weather officials.

Some areas of Delhi experienced more heat with 37.5 degrees recorded at Palam and 36.5 degree Celsius each at Ridge area and Ayanagar, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said.

Tuesday's minimum temperature settled at 17.1 degrees, two notches above the season's average.

Last year on March 13, the maximum temperature was recorded at 24 degree Celsius.

"This is the warmest day of the year so far. Temperature may fall slightly by tomorrow (Wednesday), but would anyway remain around 34 or 35 degrees," the IMD official said.

According to weather analysts, while a respite is likely around March 15 and 16, with slight probability of light rain showers in Delhi and neighbouring regions, mercury will soon rise.

"It can reach 39 top 40 degree Celsius by the end of the month," Mahesh Palawat, director private weather analyst group Skymet told IANS.

According to Skymet, while parts of Himalayas saw snowfall and will see more again towards March 15 , Delhi could not see respite from heat due to depression over the Arabian Sea.

"The depression over Arabian Sea is cutting off the cold northerly winds and thus Delhi is unable to benefit," Palawat said.

The humidity on Tuesday oscillated at 21 to 71 percent.

Monday's maximum temperature was recorded at 34.4 degrees while the minimum temperature was 16.4 degree Celsius.
