Ukraine's Elina Svitolina defeated top seeded German Angelique Kerber in the third round of the China Open tennis tournament here on Thursday.
The 21-year-old Svitolina upset the No.1 ranked player 6-3, 7-5 in one hour and 30 minutes, reports Efe.
Kerber leads the women's singles rankings after winning the 2016 US Open.
The 16th-seeded Svitolina will face World No.49 Australian Daria Gavrilova, who defeated No. 25 France's Caroline Garcia earlier on Thursday.
