The pro-talk faction of the United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) on Friday urged the central government to adopt measures for effectively guarding of the India-Bangladesh border to check illegal infiltration.

ULFA chairman Arabinda Rajkhowa made the demand at a tripartite meeting here among the central and Assam governments and the ULFA leaders.

He also sought early completion of the peace process so that a final settlement can be reached.

The meeting was chaired by union Home Secretary L.C. Goyal.

The central government's representative for peace talks P.C. Haldar, Special Secretary (Internal Security) Ashok Prasad and Assam Chief Secretary Jitesh Khosla were also present at meeting, an official a release said.

Goyal, who reviewed the progress made in talks with the ULFA, said the central government attaches "highest priority" for early completion of peace process.

The central government also assured Rajkhowa that all possible measures to check the illegal entry from across the border have been taken. Updating of the National Register of Citizens will be completed in a time-bound manner, it said.

Later, the ULFA leaders called on union Home Minister Rajnath Singh and his deputy Kiren Rijiju.
