Uttar Pradesh Governor Ram Naik and Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav on Thursday extended their greetings to the people of the state, specially the Christian community, on Christmas.
In a message issued by the Raj Bhawan, Naik said that the festival was an occasion to rededicate one's self to compassion towards the poor and needy.
In a separate message, Akhilesh Yadav said that Lord Jesus Christ gave the message of service, compassion, forgiveness and peace, something which is, even more relevant in today's world.
He also pointed out that the birthday of Lord Jesus Christ also underlined the need of compassion towards the poor, homeless, needy and the destitute.
Celebrations have begun across the state on the eve of Christmas with churches and busy markets have been lit up with sparkling lights. Security has also been beefed up across the state to ensure that no untoward incident takes place.
