Scores of water activists late on Thursday sat in a boat placed on the dry Yamuna river bed to protest the government's apathy towards the river.

"The whole idea of trying to sail the boat on the sand was to draw public attention towards the sad state of the river which should have water round the year," Shailendra Singh Narwaar, an activist, said.

River Connect Campaign activist Devashish Bhattacharya said that though union minister Nitin Gadkari promised to make the Yamuna river navigable, nothing has been done so far in this direction.

The river, in fact, is dry.
