The US Congress decided to provide an additional $75 million to Ukraine for boosting its security capabilities, US Ambassador to Ukraine Geoffrey Pyatt said here Tuesday.
Pyatt said that the funds would be allocated as part of the European Reassurance Initiative, Xinhua reported.
However, the ambassador emphasised that the US offered only non-lethal assistance to Ukraine to enhance its defence capabilities.
He also stressed that the implementation of army reform was more important for Ukraine to boost its security than aid in the form of armaments.
According to him, the US has already provided $119 million in non-lethal aid for Ukraine's defence sector since the start of the conflict between government troops and independence-seeking insurgents in eastern regions of the country last April, which has killed over 4,800 people.
