Third seed Agnieszka Radwanska from Poland needed more than one hour to finish her second set against her Spanish opponent Maria-Teresa Torro-Flor to reach the last 32 of 2013 US Open tennis.
The World No.4 from Poland, Wednesday, survived the tough match before winning 6-0, 7-5, reports Xinhua.
The first set went as smooth as possible. Radwanska's hits kept Torro-Flor at love all-through the set, finishing it with a perfect 6-0.
However, the second set turned out to be a totally different one. Torro-Flor kept pressuring Radwanska from the beginning of the second set, breaking the first service game of the world number four.
"I think she started to play a little bit better in the second set," said Radwanska after the match. "I think she really stepped forward and could hit the ball."
Radwanska broke back in the second game to level the score, an the two players went as far as 3-3 before Radwanska won two straight games for a 5-3 lead.
The 24-year-old Radwanska had a chance to serve out the match in the ninth game, but Torro-Flor took advantage of her forehand stroke to break the game.
Rawanska stayed calm when the score got to 5-5. Torro-Flor made two straight unforced error in the eleventh game to allow a 6-5 lead for Radwanska, and Radwanska went on to break the twelfth game to end the match.
"5-3 up and I didn't take my chance, but anyway, I'm just happy to close that set," said Radwanska.
Radwanska would meet the winner between 32nd seed Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova and wild card player Ashleigh Barty.
