Notwithstanding the CPI-M Central Committee's stand, party general secretary Sitaram Yechury on Sunday harped on the need for building the "broadest possible people's resistance" to counter the ruling Trinamool Congress's terror tactics.
Following the rout of the Congress-CPI-M alliance in the hands of the Trinamool in the Assembly polls, the Central Committee -- the CPI-M's highest decision-making body - had observed that the "electoral tactics adopted in Bengal was not in consonance with the Central Committee decision not to have an alliance or understanding with the Congress".
However, during the party's West Bengal committee meeting here, Yechury stressed on building the broadest possible people's resistance to counter the attack on democracy and the terror tactics unleashed by the ruling Trinamool in the state.
Chaired by Marxist veteran Biman Bose, the meeting on Sunday was attended by Yechury, politburo members Prakash Karat, Manik Sarkar, and M.A. Baby among others.
Yechury also called upon intensifying movement by Left, secular and associate parties on issues concerning the common people.
CPI-M state secretary Surjya Kanta Mishra said besides taking out a rally on July 11 against price rise, the party will endeavour to build up mass movement against the "anti-people policies" of the Narendra Modi-led central government.
The party will also hold a plenum to strengthen its organisation in the state.
